Happy Birthday, Andy Warhol! Pop Art Papa’s Birthday!

Andy has always fascinated me. From his soup cans to his Factory to his entourage to his Interview Magazine to the tediously boring notes he kept in his diaries…I could never get enough.

He gave the world a flare…and its colours still burn. If you were anyone in the 50s to 80s, you were in with Andy Warhol. Celebrities and wannabes flocked to his coolness. Some were made celebrities simply by being in his orbit.

He would have been 85 years old today, which is not unheard of. I would have loved to see what magic he performed in his golden years. His star was nowhere near dying when he passed on. I think he would be just as hip today, had he survived his gallbladder operation and the complications which followed it.

My favourite homage to Andy is this epically cool statue in Bratislava, Slovakia:
