Come What May – February 2021 – from Interlude Press!

Last week I announced my upcoming short story, Billions of Beautiful Hearts. I also mentioned that it’s one in a group of short stories being published by Interlude Press. There are 3 other stories in the Come What May project.

All 4 of these shorts are available at your favourite ebook retailers, including Amazon, Kobo, Barnes & Noble Nook, Apple Books and more. Below, you will find the Direct-from-the-Publisher buy links for the 3 remaining stories:

In GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING by Claire Rudy Foster, Laura and Thea live together in a punk house in Washington, D.C. Thea, a brash and unapologetic trans girl, lives the punk life to its fullest. But Laura leaves her leather and safety pins at home each day when she leaves for work in a government job—hiding her anti-establishment lifestyle from her co-workers and her mainstream tastes from her housemates.

When she invites Thea with her to see a Vermeer exhibit, Laura finds the courage to open up to Thea while viewing her favorite painting. Thea—normally critical of mainstream art—is charmed by both the painting and by Laura.

In AND ALWAYS COMING BACK by Jude Sierra, at first, David and Evan found a silver lining to quarantine in togetherness. But as the months wore on, the novelty wore off. At the seven-month marker, David broke down—but not because of what was happening outside. Recognizing that loneliness could wield power even when you’re not alone, David and Evan commit to rediscovering the silver that lines togetherness.

In SUNNY PASTURES by Lilah Suzanne when Frankie’s glamorous big city life falls apart, the only place she has left to go is her grandmother’s retirement village where she’s charmed by her grandmother’s friends, and a beautiful home health aide named Claire.

Pride Must Be A Place Review…

For some unknown reason, My Google alerts chose today to send me an alert on a PRIDE MUST BE A PLACE review from July. Maybe Google knew I needed a boost in spirit?

Anyway, I’ve been talking so much about my recent release, THE CAMINO CLUB, that I sometimes forget how happy I was to have PRIDE MUST BE A PLACE published. I absolutely loved writing that story about the inception of a Gay Straight Alliance in a small town high school! I wrote half of Pride at the 2015 Muskoka Novel Marathon. Then, Michael and I stayed at his sister’s cottage for a week later on during that same July and I finished the manuscript. It was a fun ride!

Anyway, Google sent me an alert for a beautiful review of Pride that was posted at Muskoka Style Magazine in July. The reviewer, Kaitlyn Sutey, actually suggested it for a Pride Month read. It’s really a gorgeous review and it reminds me that I have written other books. We lose sight of that when we’re in the thick of publishing The Next Novel.

The Camino Club Book Birthday! Places in the book…

It’s book release day! It’s a day filled with excitement and anxiety! My baby is in the world! Will the like my baby? Will my baby be okay? MY. BABY. IS. IN. THE. WORLD!!!

THE CAMINO CLUB lands TODAY!

Thanks from the bottom of my heart to CB MESSER, ANNIE HARPER, and CANDYSSE MILLER—the fabulous team at INTERLUDE PRESS/DUET BOOKS! CB made the best cover in all the world when they created the cover for The Camino Club. I get weepy just thinking about it. It’s the aura colours of the Camino itself. Exceptional! And Annie was incredible to work with as an editor! They made my little novel BETTER. And Candysse does ALL THE THINGS all at once! Amazing! I’m so thrilled with this team behind me and the little book of my heart!

Once book day arrives, there really isn’t much left to do (especially during a pandemic!), so I thought I would share some pics of places you’ll find in the book…places that made it from the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage path in Spain to the pages of The Camino Club.

Creepy Jesus of Cacabelos. Cacabelos, Spain. Discovered by Claire, who took Troy to visit it under the illumination of a full moon…
One of the main entrances of the Castillo de los Templarios in Ponferrada! This is where the teen pilgrims in THE CAMINO CLUB began their Camino. The castle was a Templars stronghold and it was built in the 12th Century.
This milestone marks the beginning of the GALICIA Region of Spain. As the group of pilgrims approached this marker (after a long uphill mountainous climb), Greg wanted to find an A & W restaurant and a cold mug of root beer at the top. Instead, they found this marker. SELFIE TIME!
Inside the church in O Cebreiro! Igrexa de Santa María A Real do Cebreiro. In Chapter 22, Bastien tells the teens about the miracle that happened here inside this church…on the day of a snowstorm centuries before.
Inside the dining hall where the magical Queimada ceremony was performed in Fonfría! Perhaps one of the group’s most beloved experiences.
The stamp books that every pilgrim on the Camino de Santiago carries. They get it stamped at hostels (albergues), restaurants, etc. They show it at the end of the journey to prove that they actually walked the Camino. Each place that gives you a stamp also writes in the date you were there.
The monastery in Samos, Spain. The compound looks almost like a village itself. Shania, Manny and Diego tour the monastery with Gil and Meagan. Monasterio de San Julián de Samos.
They were shocked to find Diego’s doppelgänger in the murals on the monastery walls!
The scallop shell fence that Diego, Bastien, and Shania hopped to go for a late night swim in Samos.
The magic at the end of the yellow brick road! The Catedral de Santiago de Compostela in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Where the bones of St. James the apostle are said to be interned. It is found in the Praza do Obradoiro…a huge plaza where all the pilgrims gather and celebrate their journeys.

If you pick up a copy of THE CAMINO CLUB, I hope you enjoy it! My wish is that it lights a spark for your own Camino. One can dream, right! (-;

Here’s a LINKTREE list of purchase links! It’s now available everywhere.

ENJOY! BUEN CAMINO, PEREGRINO!

The Camino Club – On the Eve of a Release!

Tomorrow (TUESDAY OCTOBER 6th, 2020) is the release day for my latest novel, THE CAMINO CLUB!

If you’re not coming to the book launch at Blue Heron Books in Uxbridge, Ontario on Sunday the 25th, please consider preordering a copy of The Camino Club today or picking up a copy tomorrow on the day of its release. It’s available wherever books are sold.

This is a YOUNG ADULT title, but I’m sure it would appeal to all ages. If you ever wondered what it would be like to walk the famous Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route across Spain, this is a great primer. I have now walked the path twice–once before writing THE CAMINO CLUB, and once after the novel was contracted to DUET BOOKS/INTERLUDE PRESS…but before the sale was announced.

I love the setting of this novel and knew immediately upon setting foot on the Camino that I would have to explore it in my fiction. Now, the story is here and I’m so excited to share it with readers…young and old alike!

Here’s what the story is about, in a nutshell:

THE CAMINO CLUB (Duet Books/Interlude Press) After getting in trouble with the law, six wayward teens are given an ultimatum: serve time in juvenile detention for their crimes, or walk the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route across Spain over the summer holidays with a pair of court-appointed counselor guides. When it becomes clear the long walk isn’t really all that much of an option, they set out on a journey that will either make or break who they are and who they are to become.

Here are some of the order links. I hope you decide to pick it up! It’s been getting some amazing feedback recently!

Watch the Movie THE WAY with Me on Twitter Watch-Party!

My publisher, DUET BOOKS/INTERLUDE PRESS, has a WATCH-ALONG movie night feature where they pair one of their authors and their book with a movie. WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 23rd is my turn to play! Tomorrow night (sorry for the short notice!) I will be hosting a WATCH-ALONG of the beloved MARTIN SHEEN movie, THE WAY!

Here’s How It Works!

You come join me on Twitter at 8PM EST time on Wednesday September 23rd, 2020. We all start the movie at the same time and we tweet a watch-along conversation in real time while using the HASHTAG #IPMovieNight in all of our tweets so we can follow along in the conversation. And if you want to read the conversation, all you have to do is click on the hashtag itself to see all the other tweets in the conversation.

This works if people show up, so I hope to see you there!

ALSO—there will be PRIZES/GIVEAWAYS!

Here’s the Tweet from my publisher to get you started. You can click on the hashtag and my Twitter profile name here to go to Twitter. >>> #IPMovieNight is back!! Join author @KevinTCraig this Wednesday in a Twitter watch-along of the Camino de Santiago drama THE WAY starring Martin Sheen and a chat about Kevin’s upcoming novel, THE CAMINO CLUB!

The Main Pilgrim Family in the Movie THE WAY – Joost, Sarah, Jack, and Tom.

Here’s the synopsis to the movie:

A grieving father makes a pilgrimage to the Pyrenees in honor of his late son, and experiences a major epiphany during his journey down the Way of Saint James. When his adult son (Emilio Estevez) is killed during an excursion down a Christian pilgrimage route, California doctor Tom (Martin Sheen) vows to complete the treacherous journey. As Tom sets down the 800 km path with only his son’s guidebook and backpack, he forges powerful bonds with three fellow travelers (Yorick Van Wageningen, Deborah Kara Unger, James Nesbitt), who alter his perspective of the world and remind him what it means to lead a meaningful life.

Now, how it relates to my upcoming novel, THE CAMINO CLUB. I think the answer is quite obvious. The movie is set on the Camino and so is the book. The book is YOUNG ADULT, but the movie is NOT. It will, however, give potential Camino Club readers a great understanding of what life on the Camino is like. ALSO, there is another less obvious tie-in…

I pitched THE CAMINO CLUB as a move diverse The Breakfast Club meets the Camino de Santiago. Well, the movie was directed by Emilio Estevez. The movie was also written for the screen by Emilio Estevez (from the Jack Hitt book). Emilio Estevez was in the movie THE BREAKFAST CLUB. He is also the son of Martin Sheen in real life. I think this makes it the perfect movie for my #IPMovieNight event!

I hope you join me. This movie is a pure delight, whether or not you’ve been on the Camino yourself. It takes you there. Come to Twitter and click play on the movie at 8pm Wednesday September 23rd, 2020. We can take a break from ALL OF THIS (*gestures toward the world in general*) and watch it together!

Wait. There’s more! Along with the BOOK SPECIALS and the GIVEAWAYS that will be happening, you can email your rental receipt to DUET BOOKS/INTERLUDE PRESS for In-Store Credit! Sound like a great deal to me!

Unfortunately, you’ll have to bring your own popcorn. We haven’t quite figured out the whole BEAM ME UP thing yet…otherwise, I’m sure IP would have been happy to provide the popcorn. Damn technology!

SEE YOU THERE!
